September 9, 2019 (FRANCONIA, MINN) —Please join Franconia Sculpture Park’s artists, staff, and our thriving community as Franconia hosts its 23rd Annual Art and Artists Celebration on September 28 from 12 to 6pm. This event serves as the opening reception for the new sculptures created in 2019, offering opportunities all day to satisfy your artistic curiosity and participate in family art-making. Visitors can enjoy Franconia’s idyllic 43-acre landscape complemented by contemporary sculpture. The combination of a relaxing atmosphere and dynamic art makes for a truly enjoyable day. The event is FREE – parking is $5 per vehicle, and there is a nominal fee for some activities.

Please be sure to join Franconia’s Board of Directors for a meet-and-greet with Franconia’s new Executive Director & Chief Curator Ginger Shulick Porcella from 11am to 12pm on the 28th (light refreshments will be served), then spend the afternoon enjoying the Art & Artists Celebration.

The 23rd Annual Franconia Art & Artists Celebration is the perfect destination on a beautiful fall day in the St. Croix River Valley.

Live entertainment schedule in Franconia’s Earthen Amphitheatre:

· 12:30 – The Swongos is a three-piece instrumental Surf Rock Band from the Minnesota/Wisconsin border.

· 2pm – The Gentlemen’s Anti-Temperance League plays music with smoky rhythm influences from the Prohibition swing era.

· 4pm – Superior Siren is an all-female eerie folk project created on the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota.

Other activities for the day include:

· 12:00, 1:30, 3:30 and 5:00pm – Guided tours. Join a Franconia artist to learn about the new 30+ sculptures, the residency program, and the process involved in creating sculpture at Franconia.

· Activities from 12-6pm:

o Face painting and Franconia’s people-powered spin art machine; $3.00 each or 2 for $5.00.

o Family art-making activities led by Franconia staff and volunteers

o Participate in a Scavenger Hunt throughout the Park; the scavenger hunt will lead participants to a select number of the more than 120 large scale sculptures on exhibit at the park. Scavenger hunt participants will need to answer questions along the way to complete their scavenger hunt passport. All passports successfully completed and returned to the Franconia Information table will be entered into a raffle to receive a prize!

o Purchase art at the Women’s Art Resources of Minnesota (WARM) Fire Sale fundraiser booth; pay a nominal or “pay what you can” price on last-chance artwork donated by artists. These artists have agreed to place unsold artwork at the end of the day into a fire to release the bonds of the art that is no longer serving them.

Food vendors will include Yummies (Greek), Asase Yaa Global Foods (Afro-Caribbean), the Cotton Candy Ice Cream truck, and Franconia’s own Lizard Lounge with beverages sponsored by Surly Brewing Company and Alexis Bailly Vineyard.

Franconia Sculpture Park (29836 St. Croix Trail, Franconia, MN 55074) is accessible to all, with gravel and mowed grass paths throughout the park, the restrooms are also accessible.
