(GALENA) – Wine and dine your way through Galena Country, where great tastes and artisan-inspired dishes from around the world are featured at every corner. Whether visitors are touring historic sites, shopping Main Street Galena or enjoying some outdoor winter fun, they will find the right recipe, ambiance and flavors to satisfy their cravings.
“Galena Country is home to many unique dining experiences,” said Rose Noble, Galena Country Tourism CEO & President. “We have farm-to-table hotspots that boast local flavors and made-from-scratch dishes. We have cozy bistros nestled throughout the County that provide visitors with the perfect spot for a gourmet beer and sandwich. There are also many fine-dining establishments to choose from, where one can experience a special tableside greeting from the chef. It truly is a destination that foodies of all ages, no matter the palate, will enjoy.”
Those looking for a quick soup and sandwich place have plenty of options, including Stella’s Café in Stockton which is a must-try. Not only is it located in a great building, it has delicious omelets, an assortment of sandwiches and burgers (on fresh-baked bread), homemade soups and salads. Another favorite is Dillon’s HM Pizza & Tavern which serves up great breakfast, delicious pizza, chili dogs, grilled sandwiches, burgers and beer. Welcome Inn in Elizabeth also serves up great breakfast and lunch but adds hand-cut steaks and fresh seafood to its dinner menu.
After a day of shopping and cruising Galena Country, head over to these casual pubs to catch a game and enjoy a cold brew and mouthwatering food: Gobbie’s Sports Pub & Eatery is famous for its homemade pizza and beer nuggets, Frank O’Dowds Irish Pub & Grill at The Irish Cottage Boutique Hotel brings a taste of Ireland right to Galena, and J.M’s Tap in East Dubuque serves up outstanding homemade pizza, burgers and craft beer.
For fine dining, try out One Eleven Main which brings a fresh twist to familiar dishes, and features locally-sourced ingredients in their gourmet approach. Enjoy homemade lasagna, fresh scallops and prime steaks at Fried Green Tomatoes. Or, head to Timmerman’s Supper Club in East Dubuque, which features hand-cut steaks, prime rib, fresh seafood and breathtaking views of the mighty Mississippi River.
While in town, wine lovers should take advantage of Galena Country’s four local vineyards. Located in the lower portion of the Upper Mississippi River Valley American Viticultural Area, this unique geographic and topographic environment makes the region ideal to grow Marechal Foch, St. Croix and Frontenac grapes. Each winery – Fergedaboudit Vineyard and Winery, Galena Cellars Vineyard & Winery, Massbach Ridge Winery and Rocky Waters Vineyard & Winery, Inc. – tempts taste buds with award-winning, estate-grown wines that have amazing taste, legs and aromas.
Round out your wintery weekend with a trip to The Nordic Center at Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa for cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing or hit the slopes at Chestnut Mountain Resort for impressive drops, thrills and scenery. Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa offers two excellent dining options – Woodlands Restaurant and Woodstone Restaurant – both featuring fresh, locally-sourced food. Or try The Summit or the Sunset Grille – on-site dining options at Chestnut Mountain Ski Resort – both of which offer delicious food and breathtaking views.
